During CTIA Wireless, Engadget Mobile got the word from Cingular, sorry at&t, that the U.S. American carrier plans to release Windows Mobile upgrade for the Palm Treo 750, as well as the Cingular 8525 (aka HTCHermes) and the Samsung BlackJack. These updates are planned to be distributed as downloads for current owners and in future, Windows Mobile will be pre-installed on all further devices launched in 2007.
According to Engadget Mobile's information, the Samsung BlackJack update should arrive at Cingular by May 26; with an expected eight week period for testing, bug fixing and network approval which means the final version could become available late July this year. No word on timing for the other two devices.

Definitely good news for all Cingular customers. While the Treo 750 update was confirmed last month, during the 3GSM Congress, neither the Samsung BlackJack nor the HTC Hermes were mentioned so far as upgrade candidates. I definitely hope, that other carriers, which carrying the Hermes as well, will also provide a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade and Samsung (Europe) might change its opinion and will not release the SGH-i600 here with Windows Mobile 5 but with Windows Mobile 6 instead; or offers a Windows Mobile 6 upgrade at a later time.

Cheers ~ Arne
