Yesterday evening, Google has announced the release of a new Android Market for phones which comes with a new design and even new purchase and rental options by integrating books, and movies. The overhauled Android Market, which reminds a little bit of Microsoft's Windows Phone Metro design - with all the tiles and pivots - is said to make it faster, easier, and more fun to discover great Android apps, movies, and books. Google is giving more space to feature some of the most interesting content of the week on the home page. Also new are more top charts, with newer, more relevant items as well as the new collections of great content, like staff picks and Editors' Choice apps.

In addition to the overhauled look and feel, U.S. users will be able able to rent thousands of movies from the Android Market, starting at US$ 1.99. With the Videos app, available in Android Market, there's no more waiting for downloads, syncing or worrying about storage space because movies can be rented from anywhere - the web, or Android phone or tablet - and watched instantly. It's also possible to download movies to a device so they're available for viewing when disconnected and offline.

Also in the U.S., users can now purchase books from Android Market. Like movie rentals, books are linked to the Android Market's Google account, so they're instantly available across all the user's Android devices and computer - without the need for wires or downloads.

The new Android Market will be rolling out in the coming weeks to Android 2.2 and higher phones around the world. Users don't need to do anything - the update is automatic on supported phones. Users in the U.S. will also be able to download the Videos app, rent movies, and buy books once they have receive the new Android Market.
