UPGRADE: HTC takes the Desire HD from the List of ICS upgrades - confirms Jelly Bean for some One Devices

The bad news came last weekend! After HTC told The Verge, that some HTC One-series devices will receive Android 4.1/Jelly Bean, something most of us expected, HTC also updated its list of devices which are expected to receive Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich and it axed the upgrade for the HTC Desire HD! While HTC's Jeff Gordon said that "at this point in time, we can confirm that we have plans to upgrade our HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S to Jelly Bean", Gordon has neither mentioned the HTC One V nor the HTC Desire C. And while we are talking about the Desire-series, something seems to went wrong since HTC is now saying that it "determined that the current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD".

As a matter of fact, HTC is the opinion, that Android 2.3/Gingerbread is the best option for Desire HD users: "When we consider new versions of software, we weigh a number of factors, but ultimately the customer experience on the product is the deciding factor. We apologize for any confusion this change may have caused our customers."

HTC's decision is somewhat weird and hardly acceptable since the HTC Desire C isn't anything better spec'd but comes with Android 4.0 and the stripped-down version of HTC Sense 4; something the Desire HD should be good enough to also run. On the bright side, the HTC Desire S is still on HTC's list of devices which is expected to receive the upgrade anytime soon (the initial timing said anytime between June to July).

Cheers ~ Arne
