On its Motorola Europe Facebook page, Motorola has just announced that it has started with the promised and long awaited Android 2.1 roll-out for the Motorola Milestone (you know - the GSM/UMTS version of Verizon's Motorola Droid). According to Motorola, the European roll-out of Android 2.1 began today in France and will roll out across Germany, Italy and the UK between now and mid-April as testing and approvals are completed. Enhancements should include including live wallpapers, up to 9 home screens, added security for exchange server users and (yet not detailed) more (goodies)!
Stay tuned for further information. As before, the update will be released most likely as a PC as well as OTA (over the air) download.
UPDATE: As Motorola Europe just announced on its Facebook page, the Milestone Android 2.1 upgrade begins its roll out in Germany today! However, it seems the Motorola OTA servers are completely overloaded; no wonder at all. Motorola has yet not unveiled which of the three ROM versions (O2 Germany, Vodafone Germany or vanilla for DACH) it's rolling-out.
UPDATE 2: Just received the official confirmation that today's Android 2.1 update is for legacy DACH Milestones only and yet only available as a PC update but not as an OTA update. The O2 Germany and Vodafone Germany Android 2.1 updates will follow later.
Cheers ~ Arne
