Following yesterday's news that HTC has just started the rollout of Android 4.3 for its HTC One, also Samsung started recently the rollout of Android 4.3 for its Samsung Galaxy S4; as promised at its Unpacked Episode 2 event back in August. The update, which our European test Galaxy S4 only received today, was started last Friday and hit Germany and Russia first. However, since it's another staged FOTA update, our Galaxy S4 was rather one of the last to receive it. Nevertheless, following the European rollout start, Samsung also began to distribute the upgrade in India and latest in Korea. Yet not on Samsung's list of countries which are receiving the update anytime soon are the U.S.

In terms of changes and enhancements, the upgrade features all the latest Google Android 4.4 goodies. On top of that, Samsung says it added new features, for instance KNOW for consumer, added compatibility for the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, improved graphics, multimedia and Bluetooth performance as well as improved and adjusted the user interface (aka TouchWiz) with icon changes, etc.

On top of that, SamMobile found out that Samsung has added ANT+ support, that Samsung Wallet comes pre-loaded now, as well as that the upgrade features a new Camera firmware.

The 683 MB large FOTA upgrade is now distributed in selected countries and also available via Samsung's Kies' PC and Mac software.

Cheers ~ Arne
