I was looking for such a kind of software for a long time but I've never seen it before. Thanks to JoseF for pointing us to it:

How many times you faced the problem of Quick Dialing with one hand while driving your car or while carrying a bag?
The contact you want to dial is not in the call log!
You don't want to stop the car, and free both hands, to fetch out the stylus, and start your contact search to dial.

Convert your Pocket PC device to a one handed device with this fast contact search and dial tool. Using your thumb, you can pick the contact and dial the number. You type the initial letters and the program will immediately display the required contact. With built-in intelligent search feature, a 500 contacts list takes 3 Finger Clix to fetch

  • Two keypad modes: Smart and Classic
  • Fast access to Finger Clix with the Contacts button. (optional)
  • A full screen display with big buttons for easy read and selection
  • Use your fingers to type the contact's name or scroll through the contacts list
  • Supports European languages by searching for contacts written with Umlaut, accent and grave characters
  • Selectable colorful skins.

Finger Clix is available from PocketGear (affiliate link) for US$ 9.95  and a 7 days trial version is also available.
I think this kind of software makes a lot of sense because at least that's the reason why I don't feel so comfortable with a Phone Edition to make it my main phone: it's to inconvenient to make a fast dial and I really hope Microsoft will improve the contacts search for future Phone Edition versions.

I really wonder that no one else has developed such a handy tool before.

Cheers ~ Arne

Such a software has been developed around 2 years ago, and works quite well. The name is Contacts Pro from, the same guys that make the recognized WorldMate.

@Helio: I've tried it and it never convinced me. It's not that easy searching/dialing but is more a contacts search then an easy dialing...

Great software! Now let's see if someone can help me to find or knows of any other SW that makes the experience with a pocket pc phone much more friendly:

Fidel! I would kindly ask you to ask that kind of questions in the Forum. Also some of the questions are already answered there - please do a search.

The Forum is much easier to track, especially for that kind of (support) questions which are unrelated to the story above.

@all: I have mailed them a few of my comments, among which the SMS feature. This was their response:

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your interest in our product.

You have mentioned some very good enhancements. I will forward them to our developers to check the ability to be included in the next version.

Please keep in touch.

Best Regards.
