Do you remember my review of Bluetooth Remote Control for Smartphone Version 0.4.0 which is a great remote utility to control your PC's Winamp, Windows Media Player and PowerPoint applications from the Smartphone through Bluetooth?

In my final conclusion I've added some wishes including Apple iTunes support (which is my primary music player on my PC). Today, Edward let us know in the comments of the review, that he has worked on such an application which is available now in a first Beta: ITunes Remote for Smartphone

ITunesRemote is a Windows Smartphone application that can be used to control an instance of ITunes running on a Windows PC. For example, you can use a Bluetooth ActiveSync connection to wirelessly remote control an AirTunes connection to Airport Express.

ITunesRemote consists of a server application which runs on a PC that is running ITunes and a client application that runs on the phone. ITunesRemote relies on you having an ActiveSync connection to a PC on the same network as your ITunes server.

Features

  • Display which track is currently playing
  • Display the current position in the track and it's total length
  • Skip back and forth in a playlist
  • Pause and resume playback
  • Change the volume of playback
  • Switch between a set playlist and Party Shuffle playback
  • Add tracks or whole albums to the current playlist
  • Browse a random selection of albums and tracks from your library. Currently there is no search, you just select "Random Albums" from the menu and ITunes Remote will pick 5 albums from your library at random which you can then browse and add to your playlist. If you don't fancy listening to any of them, just select "More Albums" for another 5 random pick.

If you do give it a try, please let the developer know how you get on either by E-Mail or by leaving a comment on his project page. It's not been particularly widely tested so he's interested in any feedback at all.

That's exactly what I was looking for since I bought my Apple Airport Express last year which I've used a lot on my balcony to get the music streamed on warm summer evenings. However, I had the serious problem to control iTunes since I had to go into the living-room every time I wanted to change a song or the volume. ITunesRemote sounds like the answer of the problem.

Cheers ~ Arne
