Xetra has recently announced the availability of Beta 4 of his Xbar project for Smartphone with some useful improvements and additions. Xbar is a graphic oriented task switcher for Smartphones which lets you switch between tasks and close open tasks/applications as well as it provides you information about phone memory used and now - with Beta 4 also information about your battery health is implemented ass well as the current tempreture, based on the Canary/Tanager battery information (see his previous project - Thermo for Smartphone).

As before it use the record button on the left to launch/hide the GUI and now also use the volume up/down to switch between the running tasks:

Some changes:

  • Beta 4 uses less resource
  • Use of Volume +/- for navigation
  • Keys 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0 got shortcut functions through extra shortcut pack
  • Addition of many skin functionalities
    • Customization of bar width
    • Centering the text
    • Thermometer and battery information added
    • Hide Car

As before:

  • Back button: Stops the selected application
  • Action button: Switches to the selected application
  • 1: Stops all applications except the selected
  • 2: Stops all applications

In addition it offers various skins right now and it's easy to go to create own skins:

Xbar is currently free for download from Xetra's project site but he asks for a PayPal donation. Even more recommended to try out now with Beta 5!

Cheers ~ Arne

Hm, I tried to use it and followed the instruction... just nothing happened??? Hm, what is this thing with signed and unsigned applications? What does that mean for my iMate?

Your iMate should be able to use any apps... no problem there... and what do you mean "nothing happened"?

It's supposed to be activated by the record button right?

Hi Frank! Carlo is right, Xbar works on i-Mates without problems. I have it running here (in Beta 3 and 4) on 3 different devices, no problem.

Copy the .exe file to your Smartphone (store it anywhere under /IPSM/Program Files) and copy a shortcut to the /IPSM/Windows/Star Menu or Start Up. If you press the record button after you started it, it should appear.
