upcoming HTC Tattoo is HTC's first budget Android smartphone, following a
rather different concept than all the previous HTC Android smartphones. While
the HTC Tattoo
runs on Android 1.6 (Donut), the device isn't just about software but also about
hardware. It's HTC's first smartphone that can be customized inside and out. In
addition to all the options, HTC's Sense UI and the Android OS offer, to make it
yours, it also features removable and replaceable front and back covers.
However, being a budget smartphone also means that HTC had to save costs and
therefore the HTC Tattoo is featuring a cheaper, less crispy 2.8" resistive
touchscreen instead of the Android-typical capacitive touchscreen. Nevertheless,
it's really hard to spot a difference.
And while the Tattoo includes an aGPS receiver, an FM radio, a digital
compass and a G-sensor, the camera features 3.2 megapixel only and isn't
autofocus but fixfocus. Way more mass market compatible is the used 5-way D-pad
instead of a trackball.
HTC will release the Tattoo in Europe from October and will retail for
something around 339 Euro.
