The Ideos X5 is Huawei's brand new high-end Google experience Android smartphone with an entry level price point. It's powered by a Qualcomm MSM7230 CPU at 800 MHz and runs Android 2.2.1/Froyo. The X5 features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/2100 MHz up to either 7.2 Mbps or 14 Mbps (device dependent) as well as WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and aGPS. The 3.8" TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen supports 800 x 480 pixel (WVGA) and the 5 megapixel autofocus camera with supporting flash LED allows to record 720p HD videos. The internal memory has 512 MB RAM and 4 GB ROM and can be expanded with micro SD memory cards.
The X5 comes with the Android typical accelerometer, proximity and ambient light sensors as well as a digital compass. The backlight illuminated Android-typical keys under the screen are touch sensitive and features a dedicated search key. At a size of 120 x 62 x 11.6 mm, the X5 weights around 130 gram.
Depending on the carrier or open market configuration, the Ideos X5 includes the handset, the 1500 mAh Li-Polymer battery, the 3.5 mm stereo headset, a 110 - 220 Volt charger, a USB to micro USB cable and a microSD memory card (optional).
Because the X5 is a Google experience smartphone, Huawei hasn't tweaked the user interface and therefore the X5 sports the pure Android 2.2.1 experience. Furthermore it features all the expected Google Android services - including Gmail, Google Maps Mobile/Latitude/Places/Navigation, Android Market as well as Huawei has preinstalled a wide range of apps which includes Documents To Go, a File Explorer but also apps like Google Earth, Facebook, Twitter and Layar! Also added are a couple of Games and other useful apps. And last but not least, because the X5 runs a stock Android 2.2/Froyo build, the device also supports USB and WiFi tethering as well as - for sure - Adobe Flash 10.1 Beta!
The Huawei Ideos X5 will be soon released and the expected retail price is estimated at around 260 Euro.
Cheers ~ Arne
