VIDEOVIEW: Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 Unboxing and Hands-On

Following yesterday's photoview, today we present you the first Samsung Galaxy S videoview which covers the unboxing and first hands-on. However, since the review device is a carrier approval unit, it doesn't comes in the final sales box as well as it's not containing everything the commercial version will include. Nevertheless, the device itself is a final one and therefore represents the commercial hardware. It comes with Samsung's latest Android 2.1 customization and Samsung decided to use its TouchWiz interface instead of a plain vanilla Android user interface. However, the Galaxy S' TouchWiz 3 integrates quite nice into Android and adds some real benefit to the Android platform.

The release of the Samsung Galaxy S is expected anytime June or July. It's already on pre-order from several online retailers including Amazon and Expansys for something around 490 Euro - 600 Euro.

Cheers ~ Arne

it looks like you can edit the four dock-like applications too when you used the edit function in grid view?! that would be very nice :) also, does it support folders for icons?

Posted by Arne Hess on 11.06.10 - 23:57:49

Yes, the four docked icons (or better three - "Applications" and "Home" are fixed) can be edited and changed to whatever you like! Folders (you mean the good old Windows style a la "Games", "Office", etc. right) aren't available.

Awesome unboxing. Hows the battery life like?

Thanks! I hadn't had the chance to test the battery yet. Will follow-up with more info later!

that looked really good - but I noticed you didn't mention the front-facing camera for video calls, and I can't tell from the vid or any pictures that it has one, for sure - can you please confirm this for me?

You should definitely post you video on youtube. You will definitely get a lot of views there since everyone wants to know more about this phone.
Ps. Please can you let us know if the back scratches easily and how is the quality of the back.
