With the Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung hasn't only replaced some of the original Android 4.0 apps and added their own TouchWiz 4.0 apps, but Samsung has also done a lot of "under-the-hood" tweaks and enhancements which are nearly countless but really useful. Most of these options can be enabled from the Settings menu and includes customization of the lock screen, which can also show latest news, the current weather, as well as customizable short-cuts to quick-launch apps. Other options include Smart Stay which disables screen timeout if the S III detects that you are still watching the screen and battery percentage which is just a small enhancement but very useful.

Other enhancements are pretty much motion related like Direct call which allows to call a contact currently displayed on screen (for instance while reading a text message). Tap to top goes to the top of the list by simply double tapping the top of the device or Smart alert which shows missed calls and messages.

For sure, Samsung is also showing a heart for developers and has therefore included the full set of Android developer options which includes USB debugging and mocking locations, but also allows to show pointer locations, touch as well as forcing GPU rendering, etc.

As said, the options are countless and most of these features are pretty unique and can't be found on other Android devices today!

DISCLAIMER: The device above is pre-release hardware which came without any accessories. The firmware is close to the final release hardware.

Cheers ~ Arne
