Samsung's upcoming and first Google Android smartphone, the GT-I7500 Galaxy, is expected to be released within the next few weeks or so and Samsung definitely built an Android masterpiece. Running on Android 1.5 code-named Cupcake the Samsung Galaxy is a true roamer by featuring quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/1700/2100 MHz, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 and GPS. Powered by a Qualcomm MSM7200A CPU at 528 MHz, the device features an internal memory of 8 GB which can be expanded by  microSD cards. The autofocus camera supports 5 megapixel and is backed-up by an additional photo light. Last but not least the I7500 features a G-sensor as well as a digital compass which is, for instance, used in Google Maps' Street View.

Yet unique for an Android smartphone is the 3.2" AMOLED HVGA (320x480) touchscreen, Samsung uses for the Galaxy. Active-matrix OLED displays provide the same video-rate performance as their passive-matrix OLED counterparts, but they consume significantly less power!

The Samsung Galaxy features a more traditional keypad layout by sporting a D-Pad in addition to the Android typical hardware keys which includes the call send/end, settings, back and home keys as well as an additional camera key and another key which is used to lock and unlock the screen.

The GT-I7500 includes all the well known Google mobile services like GMail, Google Search and Google Maps (including Latitude) as well as its state-of-the-art Webkit web browser.

Cheers ~ Arne
