Back in January, Celio announced its Redfly Mobile Companion which is designed to extend the Windows Mobile smartphone platform to a larger display, keyboard and mouse (which can attached separately) to create a single mobile platform for easy access to E-Mail, attachments, web and business applications. Quite similar to Palm's Foleo, which Palm canceled later anyway, the Redfly employs a sleek Subnotebook-like design that includes an 8" high-resolution display, a full function keyboard and a touchpad mouse. Measuring just 2.5 x 15.2 x 22.9 cm at 907 gram, the Redfly offers 8 hours of battery life with instant-on access and the ability to power and charge connected smartphones via USB.

Furthermore, the Redfly Mobile Companion has several essential features for mobile users like its USB ports which are compatible with USB flash drives to allow easy access to files and data. It also has a standard VGA port for connection to projectors and displays which allows users to easily display PowerPoint presentations, photos, or any other content on the smartphone without modification.

The Redfly Mobile Companion is compatible with selected Windows Mobile 5.0, 6 and 6.1 smartphones. Unfortunately it's not yet the cheapest device on the market since it's available for US$ 499 directly from Celio Corp. Not a yet competitive price for a device which hasn't have its own operating system and cannot be used without a connected Windows Mobile device.

Cheers ~ Arne
