W32.Blaster: Be a nice guy and help out your friends and colleagues

Phase 2 of W32.Blaster has started now, hitting the Microsoft update/download servers. Since it is already the 16th in countries like Australia, Japan, China, etc the worm begins now to attack the Microsoft servers right from the previously infected servers and even home PCs!

Because this, users with infected PCs and servers are not able to download the required patch anymore which ends in a circular flow: "the PC is infected but can't download the patch since the download server is down, also because of that PC". So the overall idea of the W32.Blaster developer isn't that bad - use the PC to attack the server who has the required fix. :-(

Anyway, if you are a Pocket PC or Smartphone user be a nice guy and download the required patch from 3rd party locations (like heise online, a German news magazine which is mirroring the patches in cooperation with Microsoft (even if the page is German you will find what you need)); save it on your mobile device and take it with you. Every time a friend needs your help, you have the required files with you and you can simply copy it to the PC (if it has infrared). Also I recommend to download Bitdefender's Removal Tools for free (Bitdefender is a developer who is always releasing free removal tools for mass destruction worms and viruses).

In case you want to be a real nice guy and you have a USB memory stick, you should also copy the patches as well as the removal tools to the memory stick.

Funny, that my USB memory stick is Microsoft .NET labeled... ;-) Honestly, this isn't funny anymore and as most of you - my visitors are experienced enough you might should give your friends a helping hand. I already patched 4 PCs - two with my Smartphone via IrDA and 2 using the USB stick above.
