I just got this presentation from BT about the D-Link Wi-Fi camera which seams to be a cool way to stream videos to the web wireless. No, this isn't just another "home control" advertising but a serious way to watch your environment with your Pocket PC. Also BT recommends the Toshiba E740:

"We are using the excellent Toshiba e740 with the above." so Les from British Telecom.

D-Link Camera

  • An ideal solution for remote security monitoring or broadcasting of live events over the Internet
  • The D-LinkAir DCS-1000W combines the functionality of the video/surveillance camera with the reliability and scalability of Fast Ethernet
  • CMOS VGA Sensor
  • Shutter Speed: 1/50 ~ 1/15000 sec
  • Gain and white balance controls
  • Video Resolution: 160x120, 320x240 or 640x480
  • 5 Level Compression
  • Frame Rate: 1, 5, 7, 15, 20 or auto
  • Brightness, contrast and hue controls

  • PocketEye is a video surveillance suite for Pocket PC devices
  • It comprises two pieces of software: the server which runs on a Windows 9x, NT, 2000 or XP computer: it only needs a camera and network connection, plus the client software which operates on a Pocket PC

The D-Link Wireless Camera is available for US$ 449.00. This seems to be a pretty interesting concept as it uses W-LAN to transfer the videos as well as it provides a Pocket PC software to access this videos wirelessly. However, I wonder how it would works with GPRS (on the Pocket PC side and beside the costs).

Cheers ~ Arne
