I'm often asked from users with Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition devices where to get a WAP and/or MMS client from since some operators, carriers and resellers doesn't include that clients into the devices by default. The best and most recognized client is EZOS' EzWAP which is available for download now! :-)
EzWAP 2.5 places Mobile Internet information and services in the palm of your hand. Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition software-based devices which run the EzWAP client offer easy and secure access to relevant Internet/Intranet information via wireless networks.
Simply install EzWAP on your device and then you can browse mobile Internet sites as easily as you currently browse HTML sites using a standard web browser. You can also create, send and receive MMS messages. Enhanced messages containing graphics, sound and text are as simple to create as a PowerPoint presentation. With the integrated tools, EzPAINT and EzMELODY, you can create your own funny images and sounds.
EzWAP 2.5 also improves security thanks to its WPKI functionalities and Smart Card integration onto enabled devices.
EzWAP MMS Client implementation has been validated against market leaders' Multimedia Messaging Service Centre (MMSC) providers, including Nokia, Ericsson, CMG, Logica and Openwave, and is fully compatible with T68i and 7650 handsets.
IMPORTANT: EzWAP 2.5 Mobile Internet Client is for Pocket PC Phone Edition devices like the HP928, MDA, XDA, Wallaby, Spaceneedle only. It will not work with regular Pocket PCs like the HP IPAQ!
EzWAP is available from DigiBuy, a single license costs US$ 49.00 an evaluation version isn't not available
One question: Is it necessary with a WAP-browser like ExWAP? Is the Pocket Internet Explorer not capable of showing WAP-pages?

If you mean just plain wml formated pages, this can be handeled by PIE without problems. However, if you try to access more fancy WAP pages or even secure WAP pages for mobile banking or similar, you might run into real problems with PIE and that's where you need a real WAP browser which supports different ports for secure WAP connections, etc.
However, if you are talking about just accessing something like "wap.ppcw.net.net" - PIE is even enough (in most cases).
Another feature of EzWAP 2.5 is the MMS client. By default, MMS isn't supported by Microsoft on the Pocket PC Phone Editon!

Unlike the Pocket PC Internet Explorer, the Smartphone Explorer integrates WAP better and therefore no WAP browser is available today.
However, if you are also looking for a MMS client - EZOS has a MMS client for Smartphone too. Some carriers and OEMs already included it into the standard version like Orange with the SPVs as well as the PPCW.Net i-Mate.
However, that MMS client isn't available for download today.

I tried to install EZOS EzWAP 2.5 PE on a HTC Tanager (ROM ver. 188.8.131.52) but the following message was shown: EZOS EzWAP 2.5.CAB failed to install on your device.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

EZOS EzWAP 2.5 PE will NOT work on Smartphones!
Posted by Arne Hess on 05.09.03 - 16:09:04
@DonPari: You are right, that's why I've wrote Pocket PC and underlined Phone Edition. It's for Phone Edition based Pocket PCs like the O2 xda only. It's not for Smartphones!
EzWAP for Smartphones is part of certain Smartphone ROMs but not available separate!

i've already installed the EZOS EzWAP 2.5 on my O2, each time i try to connect, the message i get is "homepage not available/ may need to check browser settings"
i work for a telco company that provides both WAP/GPRS/MMS services... i've gone through the settings for almost a million time and also double confirmed it with the handset strategy department from my company, but to no avail, can i get some help here?
Posted by Arne Hess on 18.10.03 - 11:32:55
@john: So your xda is dialing and connects properly to GPRS/WAP APN? Have you already tried to establish the WAP connection first and opening the EzWAP browser after?
In any case I will forward your comment to EZOS!

i managed to get connected via ezwap with the GPRS connection but not the WAP connection (supposed to dial to the (wap) dial up number)
but anyway that doesn't matter much now, the other things is, i browsed over to EZOS's homepage, went through the FAQs and the set up.. the prob now is i get the notification message that i've receive a MMS message but when i try to view/read, the icon appears "fetching message" then it fails.. frustrating man!!
if it;s not much trouble, could you pls forward this to EZOS, and if possible they could reply me at my E-mail...?( email@example.com) thank a mil!!

i have to download EzWAP software for mobile phones

It seems to me, that EzWap 2.5 can be sold only becouse it supports WAP- only and do not manage simple html pages like to smartphone browsers: such features are very important for some providers like O2 that provide WAP-flatrate.

Will EzWAP run on Siemens SX56?
Posted by Arne Hess on 10.11.03 - 11:00:06
qmbk: Because it was designed for Phone Edition devices like the Siemens SX56 - yes, it should without problems!
