Today, not too many Windows Mobile devices comes without wireless LAN connectivity but if your Pocket PC is still missing W-LAN connectivity (either because it is an older one or your latest one still lacks it for which reason ever), the latest Socket Communications card might be interesting for you as well. Socket Communications today announced the availability of the Go Wi-Fi! P300 - 802.11g SDIO card. Designed for Pocket PCs or other mobile devices running Windows Mobile 2003/2003SE or Windows Mobile 5.0 software, the Go Wi-Fi! P300 provides a secure wireless connection that is five times faster than previous versions.

The Socket Go Wi-Fi! P300 enables all of the features that users want in a mobile device, including enhanced roaming capabilities, enterprise-class security, network location, and mobile email access with intuitive, easy-to-use software. The Go Wi-Fi! P300 Card includes the highly acclaimed Socket Wi-Fi Companion software that makes Wi-Fi connectivity and management extremely easy for the user. In addition to having the lowest power consumption and smallest form factor of any 802.11g SDIO card available, the Go Wi-Fi! P300 also provides significantly faster data throughput than wireless broadband and speeds up to 100 times faster than standard phone connections.

Wi-Fi growth is rapidly increasing as mobile users continue to embrace the technology for its convenience and as a means to improve productivity. Gartner predicts that wireless email users worldwide will reach 20 million in 2006 and 100 million in 2009. As Wi-Fi hotspots become increasingly available users are looking to add wireless functionality to their Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs and converged phone devices. The Socket Go Wi-Fi! P300 makes it easy to add a fast and secure wireless connection.

"Due to the higher data rates and backward-compatibility with the 802.11b Wi-Fi standard, the Go Wi-Fi! P300 offers today's mobile user unprecedented functionality for their Windows Mobile devices," said Peter Phillips, vice president of marketing at Socket Communications. "Users can easily find, connect and manage a secure Wireless LAN connection when they need it, whether at the office or working remotely from home, an airport, or coffee shop."

The Socket Go Wi-Fi! P300 is supported on Windows Mobile and Windows CE-based systems running Windows Mobile 2003/2003SE or Windows Mobile 5.0 software and is available since August 1st, 2006 through Socket worldwide distribution channels with an MSRP of US$ 99. The P300 also includes Socket award-winning Wi-Fi Companion software, a US$ 24.99 value.

Unfortunately, It's still a SD sized card, not a miniSD or even better microSD sized W-LAN card since more and more Pocket PCs (and Smartphones) are supporting miniSD or MicroSD instead of SD.

Cheers ~ Arne
